Our dear brother, who was the oldest of seven siblings passed away on July 19th, 2023 after an nine year valiant battle with cancer. Steve was very excited about participating in the 27th Annual Szczerba Golf Outing on Sept 13th, 2023; but Our Good Lord had a better plan and choose to have him view the outing from above with his brother Joe and Dad.
Steve was an integral part in making our previous 26 golf outings a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all of the participants. Steve had a gift and talent to organize and plan; he was very instrumental in making sure our event every year was a success.
Steve took great pride in picking out the color of our golf shirts each year which has had our Dad’s, Joe’s and now Steve’s name on the shirt sleeves in loving memory of them.
Being a cornerstone with helping every year, he was active in purchasing the snacks, water/soda, and he especially liked picking out the door prizes. Steve was one of the first players to show up on the morning of our outing. Anyone who participated in our golf outings would remember Steve greeting them at the sign-in table; if prompted Steve was the best at telling stories no matter what the topic was.
After our youngest brother Joe passed away a few days after our 15th golf outing, Steve took over the duty of announcing the golf outing prize winners. Steve really enjoyed seeing the expressions on the prize winners faces and hearing the comments shouted out from other participants in a playful way.
Anyone who knew Steve would agree that he was a loved son, brother, uncle, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a genuine friend. He valued his faith and family very much.
After graduating with the last senior class at Corpus Christi High School in 1972, he enlisted into the Navy (Seebees). After completing his active duty in the military he served in the reserves while attending Villanova University, playing varsity football with his brother Edzui, and graduating with an accounting degree. He had a very fruitful working experience with Dupont and CSC.
Steve will always be present at our future golf outings in a spiritual way.
